However, the excessive use of CGI effects and high-tech scenes take away any hints of realism in the story and make the events of the film seem like they take place in a computer world. That last bit is intended to cement Parker as his protege, but it just ends up freaking the kid out. After dabbling in superheroism—and having a fairly disastrous time—all Parker really wants to do is go on a class trip to Europe and confess his crush to MJ . But shortly into the trip, Parker discovers, inevitably, that abandoning life as a superhero isn’t so easy. Nick Fury shows up in his hotel room and asks for help defeating a group of monstrous weather-giants called the Elementals, who have been popping up all over Europe.
Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers spin a lot of web from the veneer of a story, but their script strains belief at every turn, and the jokes are the only part of it that sticks; it’s never a good sign when both of a film’s most significant plot points are buried in the closing credits. For all of its frequent charm, the most generous thing you can say about “Far From Home” is that it’s the third-best Spider-Man movie of the last seven months (if “Endgame” counts towards Holland’s contract, then it also counts against him here). I feel a bit unqualified to review Marvel Action comic movies as I haven't seen many but today just felt like an escape movie and I really enjoyed this Spider Man franchise film. Jon Watt's direction is fantastic with thrillingly acrobatic action sequences and some mind bending surrealism. The CG is incredible and it's consistently very funny without undercutting major emotional moments.
Tom Petty’s Oceanfront Malibu Beach Getaway Pops Up for Sale
Sony has asked critics not to reveal what happens from there (and I won’t), but there really isn’t much to spoil. A villain emerges, bellowing some half-baked Trumpian garbage about how easy it is to fool people who are already fooling themselves — could this be The Superhero Movie We Need Right Now? — and using drones in a way that confirms them as the most boring technological plot device since it was decided that every modern spy thriller had to revolve around stealing ominous surveillance tools.
The first stop is Venice, where the cyclone-like monster makes another appearance—a huge humanoid made of churning water that threatens the city’s architectural treasures, its population, and Peter’s friends. On a technical level, this film’s homestretch boasts some of the MCU’s most impressive visuals this side of Doctor Strange while also addressing some longstanding fan pet peeves about this Spidey’s powers and shortcomings. This is a grander, more ambitious film than Homecoming in many ways, yet it owes that well deserved accolade to all the groundwork laid so far in Tom Holland’s past appearances as Spidey.
The Best Setting Powders for Long-Lasting Coverage on the Red Carpet and Beyond
The romantic tension between the pair is particularly electric in one Vienna hotel room scene, mostly because of Watts' clever camera work. There are inter-dimensional creatures wreaking havoc across the continent, and Mysterio can focus on stopping them without having to keep one eye on the chiseled dude who keeps moving in on MJ. So far as Peter is concerned, this is the kind of hero who should be saving the day — not a girl-crazy high school kid who sometimes like to cosplay as his alter-ego around his local neighborhood after school.
I am now more excited than ever about the potential of storylines, characters and the MCU multiverse. The closing chapter to the MCU's phase 3, Spider-man far from home brilliantly ends the arc of Tony Stark and the initial trilogy of MCU phases. It was a blend of paying respects to the past but building and looking into the future of the MCU, all packed into a charming Spider-man movie filled with fun and excitement.
Movies / TV
Unfortunately, all this time with MJ means we spend less time with Ned. But we get plenty of hapless teacher Mr. Harrington (Martin Starr, Silicon Valley's Bertram Gilfoyle). We also don't get much of Aunt May , but there's a fun sense that she has her own movie going on . Things suddenly become quite Marvelish upon the group’s arrival in Venice, where everyone’s good time is intruded upon by a massively destructive storm cloud that rips through the glorious city, ruining much of it as the whirlwind gradually takes the shape of a giant watery beast. Impulsively springing into action, Spidey does what he can to prevent further destruction, although this proves to be just the first in a series of attacks that coincide with the group’s arrivals in Prague, Berlin and London. It was a thrilling adventure with emotional flash backs to the tragities of Endgame.
The comic mix-up that prevents this is quite amusing and well-managed, sticking the kid in the worst seat possible, and director Jon Watts proves himself rather good at this sort of thing. Matters proceed to include not only this twosome’s awkward, herky-jerky mutual advance toward modest physical affection, but also the more unlikely yet entirely winning connection of the geeky, plus-sized Ned and cute blonde Betty . Martin Starr, so memorable as the stoner programmer Gilfoyle on HBO’s Silicon Valley, is on board as the far-from-expert tour manager. I consider myself a big fan of Spiderman, and above all, of his villains , but, my expectations with this movie were negative... The trailers did not tell me anything, and I thought the villain was going to be modified in a way that I would not like.
Zendaya’s deadpan, impossible-to-read MJ is still a smart counterpoint to Holland’s earnestness, and the awkwardness of their romance is more interesting than anything Holland gets to do in the Spider-Man suit. Most of the teens from Homecoming return, and all of them get at least one good scene or line. MJ in particular feels like she has so much going on under the surface, but these films keep punting it further down the field. And Peter, who has to prove who he is to himself before he can be ready to reveal his identity to the world, is mostly just annoyed by the chase.
The story for the movie was very good, while it is not as good Endgame in terms of best movie from the MCU but was far more enjoyable than Captain Marvel. Heck, even Nick Fury agreed with me in the movie about Captain Marvel. I am not sure on how it could be improved possibly just did force the romance between Betty and Ned but that is all.
The script engineers an excuse for why the film’s action scenes feel even more plastic than most of Marvel’s previous set pieces, but that doesn’t make them any more enjoyable to watch, or the story beats that tie them together feel any less contrived. I knew this was going to be a good MCU movie as they always offer. But Far From Home is not just a funny and friendly Marvel movie.
Homecomming was a simple good movie with a short story and a lot of great moments. But Far From Home's story is long and complicated with many twists and turns. Jon Watts retained the humour take as he did with Homecomming and it worked better than the predecessor. The strong villain, excellent visual effects, good performance and post-endgame world adds the cherry. This maybe the best live action spidey movie but taking overall, Spiderverse gives good competition.

There are some terrifically trippy sequences that showcase the coolness of Mysterio. Gyllenhaal brings his typical great performance and is one of the better Marvel villains. Far From Home is loads of fun and a great segue into the next era of the MCU. As for the evil illusions themselves, they’re in accordance with the entire movie’s cinema-by-numbers approach. I’m reminded of Norman Mailer’s remark that the only characters that novelists cannot create are novelists better than themselves.
There are not any clear premises for the fighting, nor any sense of what may prove lethal or disabling. Peter takes part in plenty of rock-’em-sock-’em action scenes, in the course of which he takes crashing falls that would mean broken bones and ruptured organs for mere mortals. There’s no sense of physical danger to the movie’s characters—and yet, appallingly, the mighty scenes of grand-scale urban destruction, in such places as Venice, Prague, and London, imply a gory trail of bodies that the movie doesn’t dare to deliver or even hint at. Its stakes remain theoretical; its superheroic violence remains fun.
The story actually had no proper mindset, sometimes it wanted to be a High school comedy, other times a Superhero feature. It's hard not to enjoy this quirky teen romance disguised as a Marvel movie. It swings along through a great story and takes time to enjoy itself along the way.
His character seems like a hurried writing rather than a cautious and concerned approach. Most of the characters including the out-of-breath Parker, geeky dumb Mr. Harrington, embarrassing Ned, and idiotic Flash were horrendous - absolutely painful to watch. Movie Reviews By Reviewer Type
Tom Holland once again gives an incredible performance with amazing chemistry with both Jake Gyllenhaal and Zendaya. Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, Jon Favreau and Samuel L. Jackson all give great supporting performances. Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the best MCU villains with believable motivation and plenty of intense energy. Also, the sudden "Tony Stark is a plagarist" angle is just such bad retcon work. It doesn't help that the scene where all this is laid out is some of the worst, on the nose, clumsiest, badly acted exposition dumping I have ever seen in a major motion picture. If you're a Spider-Man hardcore fan, then I would strongly recommend you to skip this one.

This is such an hilarious movie cracking jokes from the start peter having his summer holiday plans rather than taking the whole superhero job too seriously until it is ready to all kick in. After screwing up to start off with Peter gets MJ this cute thoughtful gift that really shows his love for her. Not to mention Ned and Bettys cute romantic relationship hitting it off from the start after a cock up Peter pulled from trying to get with MJ, which was hilarious and so cute, so the man in the chair kind of becomes the man with the romance. Then there is a kiss that they share in the film is truly spectacular as they are well suited to each other and just shows that MJ is more than a damsel in distress kind of bad ass. I hope that MJ becomes a hero herself she kind of is already maybe a Spider Woman even though that is doubtful for the MCU and the Spider Man Films I can still be hopeful as Peter And MJ do work really well together with their amazing romantic cute chemistry. Well Done Marvel and the rest of the cast and crew on such an amazing job with this amazing film look forward to the next Spider Man Films hopefully.
Adds humor and is nice that they decided to do something new with Spider-Man unlike doing the whole story again which we all know. The involvement of Doctor Strange really helps to drive home the age difference between Pete and the rest of the Avengers, which furthers The Spectacular Spider-Man of it all. Underneath all of Tony Stark’s tech is a kid who just kinda wants to do kid stuff sometimes. I liked the tongue in cheek humour , I enjoyed the performances , especially Jake Gillenhaal as Mysterio and Tom Holland as Spider-Man. I guess my favourite 3 Super heroes are Spider-Man ,Batman and Spider-Man and remember Tobey Maguire back in 2002 when he bought Spider-Man into the 21st Century for the first time.
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Review: Cute Vibe and Great Cast Aid Least Essential MCU Movie in a Long Time
Within the scope of a single year, we’ve gotten the best Spider-Man movie ever, the best Spider-Man video game ever, and the biggest crossover superhero movie ever made, with an emotional climax that hinged on... Back in New York, Peter is struggling under the weight of his superhero responsibilities. He feels the need to step up following the death of his mentor Tony Stark, but clearly wants a simpler life as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. It’s unfortunate but possibly true that the best scene in the film comes early on, when Peter tries to strategically arrange things on the long flight to Venice so he can sit next to MJ.
Peter really develops in this movie and it's a great timeline to watch altogether! Mysterio eventually came back, of course, but this story is still truly something. "Guardian Devil" is a bit overwritten, and Quesada's faces look off in spots, but, still, this is easily the most terrifying Mysterio has ever been and proof that a good villain doesn't always have to stay tied to the hero they came up fighting. They certainly earn huge box office dollars , much more unfortunately than most of the movies I really love but money is not the be all and end all and there's room for all genres in the World of Cinema so good luck to Marvel Studios for providing good escapist entertainment. The actors must have fun making these movies they remind me of the Saturday Afternoon matinee escapist Cowboy and Indian movies I saw as a kid but on a mega budget scale .
I'm generally pretty forgiving when it comes to plot holes, so long as there aren't too many and the rest of the story is good. Like Tony thinking giving a teenage boy access to massively destructive drones is a swell idea. Or how the heck Mysterio's big evil plan even works-- apparently this is all projections, but we see things get blown up and people can get killed so.... I don't know, maybe there's a quick explanation in the movie that I missed, but I doubt it. The final battle between Spiderman and Mysterio, where Spidey falls into the middle of a cloud of light-show, weapons-toting drones and doesn't even get a scratch worth crying over, is pretty much a microcosm of this entire movie. After ENDGAME, it feels more like housecleaning and treading water than a Spiderman adventure.
It’s been great fun to see this new take on the beloved character evolve to such a pleasing extent over the last few years. They swung for the fences on this one, and they knocked it out of the park. It's action-packed, it's actually very funny, and there are some emotional scenes as well. It’s a breezy, light-hearted, and fun MCU installment that adds depth to Peter Parker’s world while setting things up for an interesting third film (whatever you do, stay for both end-credits scenes). This balance is Far From Home's greatest triumph -- Peter's relationships with MJ and Beck are the movie's emotional pillars. Zendaya shines in MJ's massively expanded role, infusing the character with humor and a vulnerability she didn't get a chance to show in Homecoming.
If there's one thing decades of superhero comics can prove, it's that even the silliest villains can hatch expert plans with devastating consequences. And Mysterio proved that in the 1998Daredevilstoryline "Guardian Devil," which saw the master illusionist drive the Man Without Fear to the brink of insanity. Amidst the crazy action mess is the cliche teenage crush storyline of Peter Parker and MJ, and the excruciating lame attempts at comedy. As another reviewer puts it, not a single dialogue can pass without someone trying to crack a joke. A movie that feels like part of the bigger Marvel universe but, somehow, retains its own character.
We are now in the post-Endgame, post-“blip” world where those who were disappeared have now reappeared and Peter Parker is back in high-school, hanging out with his unthreatening wingman Ned and romantically obsessing over MJ who is being pursued by a new suitor, Brad . Peter is planning to tell MJ how he feels in one of the romantic European locations they are due to visit during the upcoming break. But Tom Holland is still very winning as Spidey, still living at home with his Aunt May who is embarrassing him with her love life and by referring to her nephew’s spider sense as “Peter tingle”. J Jonah Jameson makes a brief, horrible return as a gruesome Alex Jones-style pundit, and Peter Parker has all sorts of dramatic new problems (it’s important to stick around for those post-credit stings). In fact, we are on pretty familiar ground, despite Spider-Man now going on a hormonally charged school trip to Venice, Prague and other European cities whose national governments have given this film tax breaks. Superhero fatigue is definitely a factor here, as the film can't shake the expected narrative beats of these sorts of movies with the third act a rote exercise of mass mayhem and close calls.

Peter, who isn’t ready for any real adult responsibility despite the fact that he’s already defeated Michael Keaton and helped save half of all life in the universe, is eager for the chance to just be an awkward kid for a few weeks, but Aunt May packs his Spider-Man suit just in case. The movie is a breath of fresh air, a fun romp through Europe with your favourite friendly neighborhood spider-man. Well written and acted, this movie again threads the line between a typical Marvel movie and a Highschool teen comedy, this time feeling especially fresh after the high stakes epic that Endgame was.
There’s no anguish there, as there was when he strained to hold a severed ferry together during “Homecoming,” or as there was when Tobey Maguire stopped a subway train from launching into the sea. There’s just FOMO and uncertainty and the feeling that people will believe in anything — no matter how dangerous it might be — before they believe in themselves. This Spider-Man film has a little romance , a lot of action and a sense of humour . I enjoyed the College trip to Europe plot with great cities like Prague, Venice ,London , each with their own threatening Monster , real or imagined. Now that I have got that out of the way I will do a proper review of this movie. After, Iron Man dies at the end of the last movie Peter is struggling to cope after all of thing Tony taught him in the previous movies.
Filled with doubts about his ability to live up to Stark’s legacy, Parker finds a sympathetic ear and a new mentor in Mysterio, who cuts an eccentric-but-dashing figure as he flies around slicing up the Elementals like… well, like a much-needed Iron Man surrogate. This film has the best Spider-Man scene that has ever been filmed. It's not just visually stunning, but emotionally charged like no other.
Spider-Man: Far from Home review – Peter Parker’s teenage kicks
But as a whole, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been better at delivering great characters than delivering great action. On that score, Far From Home largely echoes—but never exceeds—what returning director Jon Watts already accomplished in Homecoming. The fresh-faced, squeaky-voiced Holland remains an ideal avatar for Peter Parker, balancing teenage gawkiness with bone-deep goodness.
THR Newsletters
The story for the movie was very good, while it is not as good Endgame in terms of best movie from the MCU but was far more enjoyable than Captain Marvel. Heck, even Nick Fury agreed with me in the movie about Captain Marvel. I am not sure on how it could be improved possibly just did force the romance between Betty and Ned but that is all.
Zendaya Talks Hopes for Rue in 'Euphoria' Season Three: "A Little Bit of Happiness and a Little Bit of Joy"
This is one of the best movies in MCU and sets the course for it's future as its main protagonists are gone. Rather, “Far from Home” follows the dictates of the series with a solemn and pharisaical rigidity, pursuing the didactic simplicity of its bland heroics with little other than a few snappy comebacks to distract from the lockstep drama. In the process, the movie doesn’t bother to establish its own ground rules of reality or truth.

REVIEW: Image Comics' I Hate Fairyland #2
But for the casual movie goers and children it could be a Fun and Light hearted ride. The humour could have improved but I really liked the 'night monkey joke' they added. The acting once again was brilliant Tom Holland continues to impress me as Spider-Man and as well as the rest of the cast. The best bit was when Spider-Man was fighting Mysterio and they changed setting constantly during the fight with his illusions and the brilliant use of CGI.
There's a huge amount of craft and talent , especially the CGI artists that contribute to these films but if they're flat and just macho crash bang boom action I don't find them entertaining. Gyllenhaal also shines as Misterio, finally giving the great villain a worthy screen adaptation, and although the story is a bit convoluted, it certainly doesn't defy it's own internal logic. Technically, it was just fine, considering the previous films and the spectacular CGI we are so fond of ; it's just ordinary. Other characters such as MJ, NED they failed to make any impact as I would have expected them to! The only characters that brought some charisma were Happy and Nick Fury. Even our main antagonist Mysterio aka Quenten Beck was massively underdeveloped.
The film was supposed to be filled with Raw Emotions and Struggles after What just happened before in the timeline. Peter's character should have shown some Remorse or sense of responsibility after the tragic death of his mentor cum father figure Tony Stark. But he instead goes on in his life with his usual teenage troubles and the girl he is in love with. Now that I wouldn't have any complaints with if the other aspects of his true identity were intact.
But when other critical aspects of the process are neglected beforehand, this is the usual result. Here are four other things top supervisors do long before any review meeting to improve. In his latest column, Dr. Roger P. Levin confirms your thoughts that overhead is a necessary evil. However, successful practices learn how to manage it and create profit over savings. Dr. Levin offers five aspects about overhead you can use to your practice's advantage.
